Is it safe to take alcohol after lap band surgery?

I just wanted to know that can I have alcohol after lap band surgery. My surgeon has advised me liquid and off course alcohol is liquid. I know this liquid would be passing through the lap band but not sure that would it affect my lap band in any way. Is it ok to combine alcohol and lap band…is this safe?

georgia 		My surgeon wrote in huge letters NO ALCOHOL in my pre op and post op visit. As this alcohol can lead to major gas issues and this carbonations means sodium and sodium means water retention which means excess ponds of weight.

Many patients wonder if they can drink alcohol after lap band surgery. But it is not safe to intake alcohol after the surgery. Patients undergo this surgery in order to lose excess pounds of weight and alcoholic beverages are high in calories and it would not aid in losing weight. Alcohol interferes with the fat absorption so it also interferes with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins such as A, E and D. Sometime the lap band patients finds it difficult to get enough vitamins because of their low intake of food So, surgeons often advises patients not to intake alcohol as it would further limit their intake of vitamins.

At the time when patients are advised to take soft foods then many patients start to intake alcohol but they need to avoid this as this might cause vomiting and it can lead to band slippage. But if you want to intake then you can drink in leisure time. You must not take risk at anything which makes you feel bad or gives you complications with gas pain or whatever.
