Yeah, you are right. Stoma obstruction is one of the common complications after lap band surgery. This is the obstruction of stoma opening which is generally caused due to lap band system used in this surgery if it is not placed in proper way. This is the stomach band outlet blockage. Almost 14% of lap band patients are suffering from this problem. Sometime it requires re-operation for making it perfect.

Causes of Stoma obstruction are

1. Food which you are taking
2. Enlargement of lap band system.
3. When band over inflate
4. When stomach pouch twist or enlarge.
5. Slippage of band from stomach.

Stoma obstruction may result with the stretch or dilate of esophagus. If you have weaker esophagus then it gets the problem of pushing food through your stomach. You may feel vomiting and vomiting may cause slippage of band. It requires hospitalization or re-operation. It is generally complicated medical case.

To avoid this stoma obstruction problem after lap band surgery and re-operation, you should chew your meal properly. Cut your food in to small pieces and then eat slowly and slowly. Never try to eat large chunky food which may block stomach.
