Are peptic ulcer patients suitable candidate for lap band surgery?

I am extremely overweight and want to go through the lap band surgery but the problem is I have heard about the surgery that ulcers patients must not go through the surgery as because they are not the right candidate for this surgery. I had a peptic ulcer but now my condition is normal, though I am still on medications. So, I just wanted to know should I go for the treatment. Please tell for patients of peptic ulcer lap band surgery is safe or not?

hateme 		If you are extremely overweight then for you lap band surgery is good but as you have said you had a peptic ulcer and you are still on medications then it you must wait for time for the surgery. For the success of lap band surgery normally which surgeons looks for health condition is gastric ulcers. Patients of peptic ulcer lap band surgery are not considered safe and are usually not considered as the suitable candidate for the lap band surgery. Peptic Ulcers are usually the condition which gives a sign of risks to the patient’s who desires to go for the lap band surgery.

For the patients of peptic ulcer lap band surgery is a greater risk. If the peptic ulcers patients go for the lap band surgery then they would start regurgitating the food from the pouch. Also the excess amount of hydrochloric acid could eat away the lap band material. This could lead to a bleeding risk of the ulcer and lining of the stomach. After this patients might need to go for the emergency surgery.

You must not take the risk and when your medications taking time period get over then after go and meet the surgeon and tell him or her that you were the patient of peptic ulcer and whether you are suitable candidate for the lap band surgery or not. After meeting your physician learn the risks and benefits of this surgery and then after you go for this. Good luck!
